Description

Hotel California is the name of the small rest area at the top of Glitreberget in Dagali. This is a child-friendly trip with a 360-degree view of Hardangervidda, Hallingskarvet and Numedal.

The rest area is open for use all year round. You can sit inside where there is a table and benches or enjoy the sun wall outside. Pictures of other Hotel Californias around the world are mounted on the walls.

Take your packed lunch with you and enjoy the fantastic view. From here you can see the mighty Hallingskarvet in the distance, the beautiful Hardangervidda right in front of you, as well as Numedal. If you look in the direction of Skurdalen, you will see Lia Fjellhotell where it is possible to stop on the way back to Geilo for a cup of coffee and a waffle.

The trip is well signposted by the Dagali trail team, and you can extend the trip down to Skurdalen or Dagali, or take a round to Liastølen.

Park the car along Fv40 by the monument to the heavy water saboteurs and an information sign with several suggested tours. The heavy water saboteurs crossed the road here after blowing up the heavy water cellar in Rjukan during the Second World War. To get to safety, they skied over Hardangervidda, through Hallingdal and on to Sweden. Everyone made it.

The car park is small, and if there is no space, there is a larger space a little further north along the road. It is not far to walk along the road back to the starting point.
