Birgithovda - lengre dagstur

Geilo, Hol, Viken, Norway

Description

A nice round trip with great views of both national parks.

This tour takes you from the center of Geilo via Hakkesetstølen to Birgthovda (1173 m above sea level). From Hakkesetstølen, you experience how the landscape changes when you pass the tree line and the view opens up to the wide Hardangervidda mountain plains. But the Hallingskarvet also comes into the picture well. The route goes via Birgitstølen on the way back. Here you will pass several old summer mountain farms and experience a landscape characterized by hundreds of years of grazing. From here you can see down to Skurdalsåsene and Skurdalsvatnet.

The summer lift from the Vestlia ski center to the top of the slalom hill makes this trip easily accessible and more suitable for a family outing. Hiking from the center of Geilo to Hakkesesetstølen is more demanding, as the first kilometers go uphill over a slightly wet path.

If you want a slightly shorter trip, you can park the car directly at Hakkesetstølen (for a fee) and start the trip from there. Then it will be a 9km trip.

Remember to bring enough water, there is little opportunity to fill a bottle along the way.
