Ustedalsfjorden rundt - enkel rundtur
Description
A family-friendly tour, possible by bike, on foot and with a stroller.
Ustedalsfjorden Rundt is a favorite for both locals and visitors. The trip is 10 km, on a flat, nice gravel road. It is easy to find. Along the way there are information boards with local history, culture and nature.
The trail is one of the municipality's most important hiking trails, and therefore very popular. It is used just as much in summer as in winter, by locals and visitors. The heavy use causes some wear and tear on the road, especially right after the winter season, and you may experience some damage that is repaired during the summer. Be careful of this especially when cycling!
Ustedalsfjorden Rundt is a hiking trail in the summer, and a ski trail in the winter. Along Ustedalsfjorden Rundt there are tables and benches so that those who want to sit down to enjoy the beautiful nature can do so. In three places there are bricked up barbecue areas. Along the entire hiking trail there are a total of 25 boards with themes about local nature and culture.
At Slåttahølen, a fishing pier has been built for the disabled. A gap hut has been built in connection with the fishing pier. In the forest behind the gap hut you will find Huldreskogen. See separate tour description about Slåttahølen. You can fish throughout the waterway with a fishing license from the Geilo Hunting and Fishing Association. You can buy it online or at the tourist information/sports shops in the center of Geilo. Fishing is allowed as soon as the ice has melted and until September 30th.
In the far west of Ustedalen lies Tuftebrui, which is a copy of the bridge that was built in the 1830s. The original bridge has been moved to the Norwegian Road Museum in Fåberg. The bridge site is protected.
In Fekjo Cultural Heritage Park there are many cultural monuments from both prehistoric and historical times. The burial mounds in the area are from the Viking Age. Objects found in some of the mounds were all from the 9th century. Most of the examined burial mounds were women's graves. Within the cultural heritage park, seven coal pits and an iron mining facility have been registered. Throughout Ustedalen there has been unusually high activity in iron mining and bog ore during the Viking Age and the Middle Ages.
There are seven 'houses' placed like a village in the cultural heritage park. The audience can walk from house to house, look through the stained glass and create a sound experience by playing on the sound elements in each house. The artists behind this project are Gunnveig Nerol and Terje Isungset. Both artists grew up in Hol municipality.
At Geilo beach you will find a campfire site, toilet facilities and changing rooms, as well as a volleyball court and a bicycle path. There is also a large parking lot (not camping).
