Hohneck
Description
Very worthwhile, but technically and physically more demanding descent.
The Hohneck is one of the higher peaks in the Vosges. Usually well frequented, since it can be reached by car, but it also offers the possibility of reaching the descent by shuttle.
The trail runs east along the ridge, partly fast and easy, but peppered with a few steps and stone fields. From the Col du Schaeferthal it gets blocked and rocky. If you don't drive with foresight and with full physical effort, you'll get stuck.
After the Auberge Schiessroth there is a very nice section and you can drive more smoothly again. However, with many stones, steps, roots and hairpin bends, the path remains demanding and requires a lot of work on the bike.
Continue over the dam on the other side, first flowing, then steeper with hairpin bends, you reach a beautiful, idyllic, small mountain lake.
A short intermediate ascent via the forest road leads to the last part. Beautiful curves and switchbacks on the forest floor, blocked over a scree field, steps and roots offer a lot of variety down to the valley.
Access
1. From the valley on forest roads to Col the Neurod. From there on trails along the back and finally on the road to the summit.
2. Shuttle to the summit
