Lysheia/Gullhaugan/Svartfjellet

Description

The tour here can be cycled from both ends of the track, as well as halfway from Djupvågen/Vågdalen.

The track here starts from the road up to Nordlia where you can get onto a tractor road up to the top of Lysheia. Traktorveien has two starting points (check Norway's map); the track here goes through a farmer's yard, so feel free to ask permission before you lift off the gate if it is closed. If you are unsure, then you simply choose to start up past some houses a few hundred meters west from Leirbogveien.

The tractor road up to Lysheia can be cycled in its entirety, but requires a bit of sweat and a taste for blood! The top of Lysheia offers fantastic views of large parts of Midt-Troms despite its modest height. From the top of Lysheia, there is an absolutely fantastic floating path down to Vågdalen (you can also push and cycle this way up). No particularly scary points downwards, and can be driven "blindly" if you come up from the tractor road.

Down in Vågdalen you will find a dirt road which you can then cycle a little upwards to find a very vague joining path up to the top of Gullhaugan/Svartfjellet. This trail is an overgrown animal track and sometimes difficult to see, and is therefore better suited to pushing up than cycling down as a link-up of Gullhaugan/Svartfjellet and Lysheia.

From the top, there are several options, and the track here leads to "Barnestøtta". It is not recommended to follow the signs to "Barnestøtta" straight from the top, as it leads you to a very steep first bend. You can instead cycle a bit along the other obvious path towards Vamashaugen. After 100-200m there is a junction where you turn slightly to the right and follow the path around a bog. The path continues up and down to what is the top of Svartfjellet. From the top of Svartfjellet to Barnestøtta, the path descends gently, but the path here is more technically demanding and many will probably stop to look at the cruxes.

When the path changes from technical to very easy path/double track, you can stop and turn around. A little further back you will find a path that goes north towards Reinelvveien. This trail offers wonderful flow and high speed!

All in all, this is a trip that is very varied with views, tractor roads, floating paths, animal trampling and a bit of cruxing. You can cycle all or part of the trip, and in the Svartfjellet area there are also several trails. If you park at the Unglyn ski stadium in Elvelund, this area can be explored further. If you just want a quick trip, but be sure of cream cycling, then parking at the cemetery in Vågdalen and directly up the floating path to Lysheia is recommended.

Access

Several alternative starting points:

For a round trip, you can find parking in Nordlia/Leirbogveien, or cycle from the center in Sørreisa (approx. 1.5 km). When you then come down to Reinelvveien at the end of the trip, you can cycle back on asphalt (approx. 10-12km).

For parts of the trip:

Possibly either RV86 towards Engerud (Reinelvveien), parking at the pump house after approx. 300 m. You can also walk from the Unglyn ski stadium in Galtnes/Elvelund, or from the cemetery in Djupvågen/Vågdalen.
