Gazon du Faing

Munster, Haut-Rhin, Alsace-Champagne-Ardenne-Lorraine, France
11.9km|22.04.2016

Description

There are plenty of beautiful trails very close to the legendary Lac Blanc bike park. Including this long descent from Gazon du Faing to Munster.

At the beginning the trail runs east along the ridge. Without trees, there is a great view of the basin around Lac du Forlet and the entire Munstertal. The trail is not steep, but it is challenging, as you have to be very active to get over the stones and roots smoothly. There are a few easier pieces and small pedaling passages to relax, past the Col du Wettstein to the Barrenkopf. Here you are already above Munster and still have a nice 600 meters of altitude ahead of you. Some say you can smell the famous Munster cheese from up in the valley.

The trail initially follows the ridge to the south, which is a bit more technical, crosses the main road and briefly leads through the village of Hohrodberg on side roads. Immediately after that, get back on the trail at the crash barrier. From the next serpentine, the trail becomes flowy and fast. The last 250 meters in altitude fly by and the finish is a few beautiful natural berms before you roll straight to Munster in the city.

Of course, one should not miss to try the well-known Munster cheese and other regional specialties.
