Vardeåsen
Description
This is a round that takes with it the best trails on Vardeåsen, takes 1 - 1.5 hours. The direction can be varied and there are a couple of other trails inside if you want a longer round.
Park at Varden kindergarten and take the path through the woods by the parking lot. To the left up the gravel road up to the water tower, continue straight ahead onto Asbjørnsenstien. When you get to the rock just before the bog, take the path to the right, when you meet the stream you can cycle 5 meters to the right where you see a place where you can cross without getting off. Keep left until you reach a slightly larger path. Straight ahead through a lot that easily becomes quite soft, not long after the most difficult crux comes on the route. Keep far to the left up the hill before the s-turn so it should be possible to get up for those with gunpowder in their legs. After the hill, continue straight ahead through a new soft section, 100 meters afterwards, take a small path to the left that crosses Asbjørnsenstien and goes up a small hill. Follow the path further until you reach a marked intersection, here you can turn left down a fun descent, to the right in the T-junction and up a slightly difficult uphill. A little after the T-junction, the path segment called the outside goes to the left if you want a longer round, continue straight ahead here to follow the usual route up. After the hill, turn left and follow the path that goes on the left side of the bog towards the cairn. After you have passed the bench, there is a small crossroads after 100 meters, here you keep right down the hill and over several bumps before you come to a slightly steep hill. At the top of the hill, turn right again and follow the path a few hundred meters to the cairn.
After a possible break to enjoy the view, continue down a technical descent, after the beats, keep to the left so that you come out on the light trail. Follow the light trail to the left, after the bridge for the trail machine, the path turns left to where the light trail turns right. Here is a nice single track that can be a bit overgrown in late summer. When you reach the sign, keep right (if you follow the sign, the bike must be pushed up to the cairn again), keep left when you meet the bog so it should be possible to ride relatively dry-shod. Enjoy your way through the felling field and get extra points if you get over the bridge without a foot set ;-) After the bridge, turn right and follow the old tractor road for a while, pay close attention because it can be difficult to see the path that goes off to the right between the trees. Take the path down a fairly steep section before holding left on a short but fun flow section. Out on the gravel road, turn left up the hill and then left again where the road divides. Follow the path all the way up until you return to the cairn. Here there is a lot of climbing and several crux that everyone should be able to manage for those in good shape.
The road home follows the marked hiking trail from the cairn to Vardeåsen (Asbjørnsenstien). Drive down from the cairn again and take speed over the mountain after the bumps. Keep right down from the mountain and over the narrow bridge. Follow the marked path further along the bog over several cliffs. After the red cabin, keep right, over even more bumps and a few crux. See separate trail section for an alternative route. At the end of the bog, follow the largest path until you see the fence by the gravel roof and drive down a fairly technical descent. Keep straight ahead until you reach the water tower and follow the gravel a couple of hundred meters to the turning point on Vardeåsen. If you want, turn right after the high-voltage route and get a couple of hundred extra meters on the path. Asbjørnsenstien can be cycled on a fat bike when there is snow as it is mostly trodden all winter.
