Kalhovd til Mogen
Description
Trail ride on Hardangervidda between the tourist cabins Kalhovd and Mogen. The trip goes on T-marked paths over part of the plain outside the national park. Fantastic landscape and epic views along most of the route. The trip can be challenging, with some heavy climbing, lots of rock and a couple of river crossings. Everything that belongs to a real trip in the mountains. Some of the paths are also so worn that they are too deep for cycling, but as a rule there are alternative paths. The trip offers several wonderful descents, especially the path down towards Vråsjåen, and the last hill down towards Mogen. The canoeing trip is also split in two with an overnight stay at Stordalsbu about halfway through.
Access
From Kalhovd, the path is easy to find, signs and markings are reasonably well updated along the entire route from there. In terms of logistics, the best thing is to make the trip a two-day one. Drive to Krossobanen, take the track up to Gvepseborg and cycle the gravel road (there is also a path from there, if you wish) to Kalhovd. An overnight stay at Kalhovd can be recommended, the food and beer are good, and you are clear and fresh for a long trip the next day. From Mogen, you can take the scheduled boat Fjellvåken back across Møsvatn, and from there it's a quick cycle ride on asphalt down to Rjukan again.
