Store Børsjøhø til Savalen

Description

Path in the high mountains down to Røsvangen mines and cart road to Savalen around Sparsjøen.

It is signposted "Rødalsrunden" which is a long trip starting and ending in Savalen. It then follows a gravel road along Savalen, up Gardvikåsen, into Rødalen and to Finnhaugen before it reaches this track. In the heart of Rødalen, the road is closed with barriers so it is not possible to get all the way here by car. About 7 km into the mountain on a rough dirt road from the barrier to the start of the track.

A bit of pushing at the start from the seat vange at Finnhaugan. Up at Hamndalsgruva, the path goes over the mountain on a path and rough cart track from the mining era. Nice stretch, parts with good speed. At Gløtlisetra you have to go on a dirt road for a bit, but take the path down to Gløta on the right before you get all the way down. Cycle along Gløta to the bridge that is crossed and from there gravel to Sparsjøen which transitions to the path used in Trans Østerdalen day 1 (which is now unfortunately planned for ski slopes and not quite as exciting anymore).

The path can be well combined with other paths in the mountains, for example over Midthøa. Can also be nicely combined with a tour starting and finishing at Kvikneskogen (or Røsvangen mines). Nice to cycle further into the mountains here too, or towards Einunndalen towards Gløtlægret.

Access

Savalen - Garvikåsen - Rødalen. The last 7 km before the track starts is not possible to drive by car. The trail is part of the marked hiking trail Rødalsrunden.

Thomas Brekke rated Store Børsjøhø til Savalen epic. This is a fantastic path that can be both demanding, but also provides great experiences. Gløtdalen with Gløta and Finnhaugan is a unique valley. You will not forget this unique place. The trail goes through a rich cultural landscape. This is a long trip, so it is smart to bring enough drinks and food. If the weather is good, a cold bath in beautiful Gløta is recommended. 21.jun.2020
