Svinestranda
Description
This is a long trail with a lot of varied terrain. Local hero Pål Kristian Gimmestad should have all the credit for cleaning up and sewing this trip together after a lot of time looking for bits of trail. Some technical crux but also a very nice flow path.
Follow the well-marked route to Svinestranda, it is not worth dragging your bike past the plateau before the top. The path follows the same route down again, do not turn off until the cars, follow the path into Austreimstøylen. Cycle over the seat embankment, but not over the river. At the end of the embankment you will find a path down along the river. Follow this down to the gravel road.
Here there is a short climb on gravel, approximately 100m past the crossing to the Austreimstøylen, an indistinct path takes off to the right. Follow this to Holvikestøylen, over the seder embankment to a blown-down birch. Here continue the path south. After 500 metres, the path gets steeper, keep an eye on the right-hand side where a path gradually turns off. Follow this down to tractor road.
Follow the tractor road upwards until it flattens out, here after a quarter the path turns off to the right. Follow this to the gravel road. From here you have to follow the dirt road a few meters down, after a while the path will turn left down towards Leirstøylen. From Leirstøjlen, the path is much used and easy to follow. When you enter the dirt road, follow it for 50 meters before the path breaks off to the right before the last stretch down to Kleivedammen.
Access
The trail itself starts at the car park for Austreimstøylen. You can get there by driving the E39 past the center of Sandane and taking the exit to Fjellbygda. Turn right at the first intersection, straight ahead at the next. Afterwards you come to a farmstead with a toll road, this goes to Austreimstøylen.
