Storefjellrunden
Description
Would you like to cruise around the high mountains, well above the tree line? Then this could be the round for you. Mostly a light-cycling flow path that both doves over the plains, but also with peaks that provide fast and wonderful descents.
(The track was reversed and rescheduled a bit on 31.7.2022)
The trip starts with a vigorous climb from the hotel up towards the Storefjelltoppen at 1149 m above sea level. There you have a fantastic view of Jotunheimen and large parts of southern Norway. There is a target disc on top that tells you which mountain peaks you see in the distance, and a picture frame you can use for your Instafeed. Sign up for the turboka too, both at Storefjelltoppen and at Veslefjell when you get there.
The reason why it starts with a steep climb of 150 meters in height is simply that the trip after this becomes a party on floating paths on the mountain. Well worth the effort.
From Storefjelltoppen to Veslefjell, there are lovely floating paths with several track choices with some clops (planks) that you have to sneak over when crossing the marsh. After the descent from Veslefjell, you eventually turn south. Here the path becomes somewhat more rocky and the challenges become greater. It then gets a little easier as you approach the east side of Langhovda. After that, it is more or less a pleasant descent down towards the Turkuppmyran. It is then an easy and comfortable route back to the hotel.
Good trip.
