Fillingstjønne og Kvitaråket
Description
Great and varied high mountain tour on Dalsida. The trip begins on a dirt road that takes you from 800 to 1000 meters above sea level. Here the road turns into a tractor/cart road into the mountain, then follow this for about 1 km until you come to a stream and a bridge. Just before the bridge there is a clear path to the right, follow this. This path follows the north side of the Fillinge brook all the way up to Fillingstjønne. Bring some pushbike here, as the climb on this path is about 350 metres. The path becomes somewhat indistinct at the end, but you always have the stream as a reference. Once up by the water, the path ends, and you can follow the water on both sides. Unfortunately, there is no path here, so you have to wheel the bike for about 30 minutes. On the west side of the water there is a rise and at the top of this you meet a new path that comes from Lesja, Kvitaråket. Despite the fact that you are now well over 1,400 meters above sea level, the path is easy to find even if it is not used much today. This is a path that was used in the old days to bring cows and sheep to the settlements on the mountain. Follow this path to the north and Aursjøen. At the top of this trail, you are at 1,480 meters above sea level and have over 600 meters of elevation gain, with a fantastic floating trail waiting for you. Here you really are on the roof of Norway, so enjoy the view! At about 1,100 meters above sea level, you have two options, continue along Kvitåe on the east side, or cross the stream and follow the path on the west side. For the most flow choose west, or east for technical challenges. Once down, it's gravel pounding back to the car.
NB! This is a high mountain area where it is unlikely to meet people, and in fog navigation can be demanding. The trip is recommended for people used to mountains with knowledge of maps and compasses. I recommend downloading the GPX file, as there is sometimes no mobile coverage, and the route selection can be somewhat challenging. Also take into account the wild reindeer that have a grazing area here.
