Ru Courtod

Description

This trail will take you along the Ru Courtod Canal finished in 1433 and still in function transporting water from the glaziers of Monte Rosa. Most of the trail is covered in pine needles and follows the canal, forming a nice and quiet atmosphere in the woods before you get out onto grazing fields with great views of the surrounding mountains.

It starts with a 250 meter climb on a gravel road. You then get onto a dirt road where you need to go through a dark tunnel (depending on the time of day and year, you might need a light to get through), watch your head, the ceiling is low. After the tunnel, you can see the entrance of the trail on the down-side of the dirt road. The entrance is steep, but then it flattens out.

There are some parts with roots and embedded rocks, but most of the trail is rated green (easy).

Access

Cross the bridge in Blanchard, north of Champoluc, a few kilometers up the valley.

Some parts of the trail takes you through open grazing land.
