Hjort Skyline Route

Lønahørgi, Voss, Hordaland, Norway
11.5km|344m ◢ ◣ 1136m|28.09.2019

Description

The Hjort Skyline Route takes you up and over Voss's most iconic landmark mountain, far away from the crowds. Expert riders and route finders will experience the silence and awesomeness of rugged Norwegian backcountry on this adventure. This is an epic ride to be done only under good weather and riding conditions. Local knowledge or a guide is highly recommended ! Voss legend Benjamin Hjort was the inspiration for this trail. His spirit now rides with you on this epic mission.

There are numerous hike-a-bike (carry bike) sections to reach the summit and also a few on the descent. The first 6 km of downhill require navigating the best lines amongst epic rock slabs, possible snow patches, and technical descents. All of the trial is unmarked and goes over rocky formations and slabs before reaching the saddle between Lønahørgi and Svartahørgi. Here you must first ride east around Svartahørgi before tracking left (north) and avoiding the cliffs below. Riders will reach a crux cliff section with a walkable route before reaching the wet bogs and crooked sheep tracks which descend below treeline and onto the famous Horgi Ned downhil trail (Afdalsti).

Access

Access via Voss Resort Gondola and ride the main 4x4 road past Slettefjellet Lodge (Storastova) before a major rideable climb begins. This road will take you past Horgaletten ski lift and beyond climbing the main ridge. Once the road ends follow the marked winter route (snow posts). Here you will need to carry or push your bike to the top.

An alternative access is to drive car to Tråstølen (Voss Resort double chair) and begin riding from there (about 20 mins to Slettafjellet).
